In 2010 I was asked to create a short story for the yearly Tyrolean literature anthology Filadressa (Edition Raetia). The theme of the issue was “tradition and modernity”. I came up with 6 pages about a dystopian future where the region of South Tyrol is a multinational corporation conquering planets to transform them into alpine-themed holiday parks. The Space Schützen (a mix between space marines from Warhammer 40K and the tyrolean “Schützen”, some form of self-organized militia from the 18th century) are the private, mercenary based, militia of this corporation.
